Our Story

Clearcut Producers, united in laughter, embarking on the exciting journey of realising others' ambitions.

Clearcut emerged from the collaborative vision of Producers Kyla Booth-Lucking and Vicky Thornton

Their journey began at the University of Surrey, where they pursued BA (Hons) Dance and Culture. This dynamic duo further honed their expertise at South East Dance, with Vicky as Head of Screen Dance and Kyla as Head of Community and Learning. Their partnership evolved into a successful job share as Interim CEO and Artistic Director

Fast forward to a new chapter: as mothers and close friends, both were thriving as freelance producers. When the chance arose to embark on a monumental project together, Clearcut was brought to life

Kyla: A dedicated fan of abstract, expressive dance

Kyla

Kyla is a dance super fan.

She loves all things dance, especially abstract beautiful work that expresses something words can’t.

‘I’m still a dance student.

Last year I took part in a  community dance piece, Dance It & performed at The Dance Space opening & every week I dance like crazy in my dance fitness class with Matt Black’

Kyla is a trained Relational Dynamics coach, guided by coaching experts Deb Barnard and Rivca Rubin.

“I coach for arts workers and outside the sector and love seeing the transformational impact coaching can have. Active listening is a super skill - a lot of change can happen for a person in a ‘held’ space!”

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Being Education Officer at Rambert in their old Chiswick building. I had to stay late to oversee the classes and lock up the spooky building. It was an amazing perk to get to see the Rambert dancers drilling choreography by Wayne McGregor, Michael Clark and Javier de Frutos.

Being ACE Dance, Relationship Manager for South East for 6 years. It was so fulfilling to support artists to get their great ideas turned into fundable projects and to see the success rate for dance applications increase year on year.

Currently, I’m Director of Programming and Participation (Brighton Dome) and it’s been such a learning journey to focus my skills through a programming lens. Seeing the new spaces in the building open up is a major joy.

Vicky: Passionate about dance theatre and unique performances

Vicky

Vicky is all about the story & the experience.

Vicky loves dance theatre & watching performances in different locations.

Vicky has trained in Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, English National, African, Kathak, Reggae, Street Dance, Breaking and Pilates.

Vicky also takes great pleasure in working with new Producers and supporting others into careers in dance.  Vicky redeveloped and delivered  University of Winchester’s Creative Entrepreneurship in Dance module for final year students.

“Passing on handed down learning, and sharing tips and ways to success in dance, is something I get great pleasure from. Seeing Clearcut’s alumni producers (Elise, Hayley and Maddy) produce their own Producer Top Up project, supporting even more producers was a proud moment, as the cycle and ethos of support is thriving.”

‘You will more likely see me throwing shapes at a festival or on a dancefloor than a class, but the joy of dancing with others & sharing the experience feeds my soul’
